The Challenge
Although the requirement was initially positioned as a “quant” hire, the real gap sat around engineering ownership and the ability to operate live production systems reliably.
The difficulty was finding someone who not only understood trading strategy, but who had also built and maintained the infrastructure those strategies depended on.
There was also a risk that strong candidates would be overlooked through traditional CV screening, particularly where titles leaned more towards “Quant Trader” than “Engineer”.

Our Solution
After speaking in detail with the client, we reframed the search around production engineering ownership rather than pure quant research.
One candidate stood out immediately. Although their background was more heavily weighted towards quantitative trading, we knew they had personally built and operated the infrastructure behind their live strategies.
The process was kept focused from the start. We addressed likely reservations early, gathered strong references upfront, and ensured the client understood exactly why the profile aligned technically and commercially.
The Result
The candidate was the first profile submitted and quickly became the clear front-runner once the role had been reframed around engineering ownership. An offer was secured and accepted, with a fast turnaround from introduction through to hire. Albert Bow have since gone on to support across more than 15 roles across Trading and Technology teams.
