Senior Rust Low Latency Engineer
£156K – £182K/ySenior Rust Low-Latency Engineer | Electronic FX / HFT | Fully Remote | £600–£700 per day | Outside IR35
Albert Bow is working with a well-backed, early-stage FX business building an institutional-grade algorithmic trading capability. The core platform is already in place, with production infrastructure running on dedicated co-located hardware. They are now looking for a senior Rust engineer to help stabilise, optimise and extend the existing system while building out the next generation of execution and order management infrastructure.
This is a highly hands-on position within a small engineering and quantitative team, suited to someone comfortable moving between market data, execution, networking, performance optimisation and production troubleshooting.
Responsibilities
- Develop and optimise latency-sensitive FX trading infrastructure primarily in Rust.
- Work across market data, execution, connectivity and order management.
- Build connectivity to FX venues, ECNs, liquidity providers and market data sources.
- Work with FIX, ITCH and other native or binary trading protocols.
- Profile production systems and remove bottlenecks across CPU, memory, networking and application code.
- Diagnose latency, reliability and correctness issues within an existing production codebase.
- Improve observability, failure handling and overall production readiness.
- Work directly with quantitative researchers to turn execution requirements into robust production systems.
Requirements
- Strong production-level Rust experience with the ability to become productive in an existing codebase quickly.
- Significant experience building low-latency, high-performance or HFT systems.
- Experience with electronic trading infrastructure such as market data, feed handlers, execution systems, OMS or venue connectivity.
- Strong Linux, networking, concurrency and systems-level debugging knowledge.
- Deep understanding of CPU and memory behaviour, profiling, benchmarking and performance optimisation.
- Experience working with real-time market data and execution workflows.
- Comfortable taking ownership of difficult problems across multiple areas of the stack.
Nice to Have
- Direct electronic FX or HFT FX experience.
- Knowledge of FX ECNs, liquidity providers, last-look mechanics and execution behaviour.
- Experience with venues such as EBS, LSEG, Cboe FX, Currenex or LMAX.
- Kernel bypass technologies such as DPDK, Solarflare or OpenOnload.
- Lock-free programming and advanced multithreading.
- Dedicated bare-metal or co-located trading infrastructure.
- C++ or Java experience alongside Rust.
- FPGA exposure.
What’s on Offer
- £600–£700 per day, or local equivalent.
- Outside IR35 for UK engagements.
- Initial 6-month contract with strong potential for extension.
- Fully remote, with candidates considered globally.
- Must be able to work broadly around UK core hours.
- Direct exposure to genuinely latency-sensitive FX infrastructure running on dedicated hardware.
- Small team with significant ownership and close access to senior engineering leadership and quantitative research.
